Equestrianism: Tait reins in a hat-trick
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The New Zealander was riding Delta III, with whom he will defend his world title in The Hague later this month.
'I was flabbergasted that she only had four time penalties, because I just let her coast round,' Tait said of the swift mare, who was fastest of all.
Andrew Hoy, of Australia, was runner-up on Kiwi, but he will not be riding the 15- year-old horse at the World Equestrian Games. Matt Ryan and his Olympic champion, Kibah Tic Toc, may also have to miss the big contest in The Hague. Ryan had a fall with another horse, Regal Style, and may have broken a bone in his shoulder.
Mary Thomson, who finished sixth on King William, was best placed of those on the British short-list for the games. But she was delighted to have only one mistake in the show jumping, King William's weakest phase.
