A murder investigation has been launched after a woman in her 40s was arrested following the death of a 10-year-old.

The woman walked into a west London police station in the early hours of Sunday to speak to officers and was then arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers and paramedics later visited a residential address in Cumberland Park, Acton where they found the body of a 10-year-old boy.

Police believe they know the identity of the victim, who was known to the woman, Scotland Yard said.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “The woman, aged in her 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

“She was known to the child. Nobody else is sought at this stage in connection with the death. Detectives from Specialist Crime are investigating.”
