A teenager has been arrested after an 18-year-old man was stabbed to death in Birmingham, police have said.

Officers were called by paramedics treating the victim in Harborne at about 7.15pm on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

A 19-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

Detective Inspector Michelle Allen said: "A young man has sadly lost his life and we are keen to hear from anybody with information which can assist our enquiries."

Superintendent Ian Green tweeted on Wednesday: “Another tragic case ... detectives and officers all working hard to support the family at this horrific time.”

West Midlands Police said a cordon was in place to enable investigations to be carried out.

The roads surrounding the scene remained closed on Thursday morning with a large police presence in place.

The incident comes after a 16-year-old boy was stabbed to death in south east Birmingham in February.
