Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Peter Scott, the polo-playing former chairman of Aegis, the media buyer, left behind an impressive list of executive toys for his employer to sell.

Mr Scott, who received a pounds 2.2m pay off from the company, passed on an eight-seater Citation V company jet which goes on auction in Dallas this week at a target price of pounds 2m.

Nearer home, the Bentley R Turbo in which he nipped about town at the company's expense is also up for grabs. Sadly for Aegis, it's a buyers' market for Bentleys these day. Word on the street is that Asil Nadir's four-wheeled steed is also looking for a nice new home.

The furniture from Mr Scott's former office is also on offer. Budding media moguls should check out the Victorian Burr Elm black leather executive desk, written down to a modest pounds 1,500. Meanwhile, a matching burgundy button-back leather swivel chair could also be yours for just pounds 350.

For those with an artistic bent, there are four pictures, ranging from a Cumming (pounds 3,000) to a Bickley for pounds 2,500. Life must be emptier for Mr Scott nowadays without these items, but at least he can cry all the way to the bank.
