Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sunday lunch

Château Beauvillage Médoc 2009

Even lesser châteaus shone wondrously in the excellent year of 2009 and this is no exception. From vines grown close to Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, velvety, blackcurrant flavours, a hint of spice and elegant tannins characterise this fabulous, incredibly well-priced claret. Goes with roast beef or any robust red meats. £12.95, perfectcellar.com

Midweek meal

Beronia Verdejo Rueda 2014

A wonderfully well-crafted Spanish white, made with two different harvests from the same vineyard, picked early and late, which achieves the desired balance between fresh, vibrant apple and stone-fruit flavours and an underlying herbal complexity. Would suit lighter white meat dishes or shellfish dishes. £8.99, Ocado

Bargain basement

Chemins de Gascogne 2014

From the remarkable Plaimont co-operative in south-west France, which blends big, efficient production with a large range of really individual wines, this is a lovely blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Colombard, the latter adding a little creaminess to the former's sparky citrus and grapefruit. Try with grilled sea bass or bream. £5, Tesco
