North Korea sends 3,000 more troops to bolster Russia’s war on Ukraine

How Ukraine is beating Russia in the Black Sea – and pushed Putin towards a ceasefire
  • North Korea has sent about 3,000 additional troops, missiles, artillery, and ammunition to Russia to bolster its war efforts in Ukraine.
  • It comes as 30 world leaders, including UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Paris on Thursday to discuss how to strengthen military support for Ukraine.
  • A limited ceasefire, brokered by the US, has seen both Ukraine and Russia agree to stop attacking ships in the Black Sea, but the Kremlin so far shows no sign of implementing it.
  • Russia has demanded access to the SWIFT banking system for its agricultural sector as a condition for the ceasefire, a move seen as an attempt to circumvent sanctions.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron has announced €2 billion in additional military aid to Ukraine and said that European troops deployed as part of a future peacekeeping force would respond if attacked by Russia.
