NHS England chief executive Amanda Pritchard has resigned following criticism from MPs who questioned her leadership and drive to reform the struggling health service.
Her resignation comes after a critical report from the House of Commons public accounts committee and a similar assessment from the health and social care committee, both citing complacency and lack of dynamism within NHS leadership.
Ms Pritchard defended her performance at a committee hearing
Health Secretary Wes Streeting praised Pritchard's commitment and integrity, highlighting her leadership during challenging times.
Sir James Mackey, the national director of elective recovery, will serve as interim chief executive.
