Singer made to re-record Eurovision entry after swear word complaint
Malta’s Eurovision entrant, Miriana Conte (Eurovision )
Malta's Eurovision entrant, Miriana Conte, has re-recorded her song and changed its title from ‘Kant’ to ‘Serving’ following a complaint about the original title's similarity to an English swear word.
The updated song and music video now include audio of BBC economics editor Faisal Islam suggesting alternate lyrics, taken from his Newsnight interview with Conte about the controversy.
Conte has expressed disappointment with the European Broadcasting Union's decision to ban the word but affirmed her commitment to the competition.
Local media suggest the BBC initiated the complaint. The word "serving" has gained popularity in the LGBT+ community and reality shows.
This year's Eurovision contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland, following Nemo's victory with dance-opera track ‘The Code’ in 2024.
