From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

This year’s instalment of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here has finally come to an end.

The final episode of the hit ITV reality show’s 22nd season aired on 27 November on ITV and streaming on ITVX.

After Mike Tindall was voted out the jungle in the penultimate episode, just three contestants remained: ex-England footballer Jill Scott, actor Owen Warner and disgraced Tory MP Matt Hancock.

Hancock’s involvement had been one of the main talking points of the series, after the controversy-struck former health secretary was announced as a surprise contestant shortly before the series aired.

However, it was Scott who emerged as the bookies’ favourite to be named Queen of the Jungle, with the former athlete standing at 2/9 to win the whole series.

After two years in which the production was relocated to Gwrych Castle, Wales, as a result of the Covid pandemic, I’m a Celebrity migrated back to its usual Australian location for the 2022 series.

As usual, the programme was hosted by Ant and Dec.

Saturday’s (26 November) episode saw the popular Celebrity Cyclone round return, with Hancock, Tindall, Scott and Warner all donning superhero costumes to brave the watery obstacles.

The episode also saw Hancock accused of a surreptitious tactic to try and encourage more votes, which didn’t escape the notice of Tindall.

That was clearly the toughest round so far, but Owen’s holding strong, chewing on that camel eye. And just like that, three main courses have been won!

Star four, which counts for a drink for Owen, is a scorpion. And according to him, “the skin was a crispy texture, but the inside? Mucus.” Just like that, he’s won it!

And for the final treat, it’s a bull’s penis. “Tastes like a penis,” he says... and just like that, all the stars have been won! That was no challenge, and he’s even said he’d eat the fermented egg again! The boy really does love food.

Twitter is all thinking the same thing...

And finally, it’s Matt, who has to keep his head in a tank, steadily filling with water (and creepies), for five minutes. Will he make it?

Nicole Vassell27 November 2022 21:34

First in the tank is four eels. Matt’s looking scared, but hanging in there.

Now joining the MP in the water tank are yabbies, toads and water spiders. Because Matt needs a snorkel to breathe, there’s not too much commentary to be honest.

And just like that, five minutes have passed and Matt’s won all five stars – meaning they’ll be eating starters, mains, desserts, drinks and treats later on!

Ant’s bet Owen £20 that he won’t be able to finish the food coming later... I’ve learned not to bet against Owen after that challenge.

Break time! And your last chance to cast your vote before it pauses and the third-place finisher is decided.

Mr Toad taking a stand.
