From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Christopher Eccleston has shared a short preview of his hotly anticipated return to the world of Doctor Who.

Eccleston played the ninth incarnation of the Time Lord in the first season of the BBC’s Doctor Who revival in 2005.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the actor is set to return as The Doctor for a 12-part audio series entitled Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures.

The series is being produced by Big Finish Productions, who shared the first behind-the-scenes image of Eccleston on Monday (14 December).

“He’s back,” wrote the company, alongside a picture of Eccleston clutching the first episode’s script.

The script held by Eccleston is part of a volume entitled “Ravagers”, and the first episode is called “Sphere of Freedom”.

The page also alludes to another character, who is “enlisted by the Time Lord to stop a dastardly plan”.

Doctor Who: The Ninth Doctor Adventures will be released on CD and digital download in May 2021.

Doctor Who is also set to return to TV soon, with a festive special entitled “Revolution of the Daleks” scheduled to air on BBC One on New Year’s Day.

The Doctor is currently played by Jodie Whittaker in the character’s 13th incarnation.
