Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

What Is It?

The Royal Ballet's much-anticipated revival of Frederick Ashton's three- act Ondine, created for Margot Fonteyn in 1958: the story of a sea sprite who falls tragically in love with a human.

Who's In It?

Viviana Durante, Miyako Yoshida and Sarah Wildor tackle one of modern ballet's most challenging roles.

What They Say About It

"With Viviana Durante in the title role, at least there was one person on stage who knew what she was doing... let your imagination loose and despite all faults, you can see what a fine ballet this is," John Percival, The Independent.

"Ondine's style and concept are stuck in a no-man's land between 1950s period pieces and classic - which makes it baffling to many modern viewers," Judith Mackrell, The Guardian.

"I can't imagine why it isn't as much of a classic as Giselle... a dazzlingly ingenious creation of staging, dance and music," Ismene Brown, The Daily Telegraph.

Where You Can See It

Ondine is in rep at Sadler's Wells Theatre, London EC1 (0171-863 8000) to 31 Jul. A few tickets remain.
