From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While film producer Jerry Weintraub confirmed there will not be an 'Ocean's 14", it may be one of the only successful Hollywood film franchises without a new installment. The list of sequels continues to grow, with many in 3D in various states of writing, casting and choosing directors.

James Cameron has confirmed there is an Avatar 2 and 3 expected; no date has been determined. Sherlock Holmes 2 will also be released and is slated for 2013. Based on the success of How to Train Your Dragon, a sequel for that film has been announced this week.

There will also be an upcoming Batman sequel due in 2011 with Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, but the upcoming Spider-Man film will be rebooted without Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

This rundown includes some highlights announced recently of upcoming sequels:

After making $390 million worldwide so far, Clash of the Titans will get a sequel with Sam Worthington returning to the role of Perseus, along with some of the other actors from the first installment. The release is set for spring 2012. The hope is that the film will be shot in 3D and not converted in production.

The family film Journey to the Center of the Earth which was an early pioneer in 3D originally in 2008, aims for a release in fall 2011. No word on if Brendan Fraser will return to star.

The following are among film titles being remade and/or old titles with new actors:

John Carpenter's 1981 sci-fi action film Escape from New York, directed by Breck Eisner who did The Crazies, and there also plans to do an update on the space story, Flash Gordon.

Another 1981 film, Arthur, will be rebooted with Russell Brand replacing Dudley Moore as the drunken playboy and Helen Mirren in a version of the John Gielgud role.

The horror film, Ring, first launched in 2003 with a sequel in 2005, will be redone in 3D based on a Japanese film, Ringu, about a cursed videotape. No word on Naomi Watts's return.

Commando, the 1985 action adventure starring Arnold Schwarzenegger will return but as covert operator, a la Jason Bourne, instead of a hard-core special ops tough guy.

The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen will be released in 3D done in post production and moving the release date to January from the crowded December schedule.
