From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Reese Witherspoon is first in line to produce and play the lead in Tink, Disney's live action movie based on popular Peter Pan fairy Tinker Bell.
The Oscar-winning actress will bring the originally minor and non-speaking character to the forefront in a film written by Finding Dory's Victoria Strouse, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.
Further details are scarce at this stage as Tink is still in development and has yet to find a director.
Rumours suggest that it will at least loosely follow the timeline and idea of 1953's animated Peter Pan while offering fresh insight into Tinker Bell's world.
Created by playwright JM Barrie, Tink is memorable for her volatile temper and fierce jealousy, but also for her kindness and intelligence. Her personality extremes are a result of her small size - she cannot hold more than one feeling at a time.
Disney had success with this model last year, when Angelina Jolie played Sleeping Beauty's evil witch in Maleficent and threw new light onto the villainous character.
Tink is expected to have a more modest budget but will likely prove popular at the box office. It follows the likes of Alice in Wonderland and Cinderella and joins Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Dumbo, The Jungle Book, Pinocchio and Winnie the Pooh on Disney's upcoming slate.
Paloma Faith will also be playing Tinker Bell soon, in ITV drama Peter & Wendy, while the latest trailer for Warner Bros' live-action Pan dropped earlier this week, starring Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily. Let's hope there's a lot of Peter Pan fans out there.
