Animal rights protesters disrupt ITV annual meeting over I’m a Celebrity

Animal rights activists disrupted ITV’s annual meeting to protest against what they said was “the animal abuse the broadcast network considers entertainment on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!.”

Peta protesters wearing frog masks held up a banner reading “ITV: It’s cruelty to animals... get it out of I’m a Celeb.

The group said activists told board members and shareholders “using frogs, insects, ostriches, crocodiles, rats, and other animals in tacky stunts is cruelty, not entertainment.”

ITV said: "As a production, we comply with all regional and national laws concerning the use of insects, animals and reptiles.

"Welfare and safety is always the primary priority on any of our programmes and we inform the RSPCA NSW of all of our activities on the show and they have an open invitation to attend the site at any time.

"We have rigorous protocols in place to ensure that animals are handled safely at all times, before, during and after any filming has taken place, in compliance with all regional and national laws."
