American Gods Trailer

Between critically-acclaimed TV shows Outlander, Power and The Girlfriend Experience, cable network Starz is more popular than ever. Now, a trailer for its new series American Gods - the long-awaited adaptation of Neil Gaiman's 2001 novel - has been released and it seems it will only help the channel's cause.

The best-seller centres on various strands of ancient and modern mythology. The trailer sets up the premise nicely despite the lack of presence from San Diego Comic-Con 2016 panel attendant Kristen Chenoweth who announced she'll be playing character Easter in the series.

Main characters Shadow Moon (former Hollyoaks actor Ricky Whittle) and Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane) appear, as does the former's supposedly deceased wife, Laura (Emily Browning).

Other actors who will appear in American Gods include Crispin Glover, Cloris Leachman and Peter Stormare who'll be playing a sledgehammer-wielding character named Czernoborg.

Bryan Fuller is the showrunner behind the series; his previous output includes Pushing Daisies and Hannibal - both which are shows that were unfairly axed before their time.

American Gods is set to air at an unknown date in 2017.
